Santa's Gift To Manual Testers
Begin Story
Hey Mr. MT(Manual Tester),
You are into the great profession of testing, it sounds so much of fun.
Experimenting new stuff, Findings bugs, Talking to people and making friends. You must be respected and praised for all things you do.
Mr. MT:
Thanks Amit for your kind words.
Testing is experimenting the product and getting insights, knowledge and in turn confidence.
However, nowadays I am a bit worried that I am not into automation yet and soon people will forget all the good things I do and talk about what I don't know
Amit:
I know one Santa who has Automation Testing Recipe, he can help you to cook some Automation dishes.
Mr. MT :
Wow, that's great, Can you connect me with this Santa?
We are already in mid of December, he must be busy during these days of the year?
End Story
Well, this is the story of many testers out there, who are mostly referred to as MT (Manual Testers).
I personally don't like to use these words, testing is testing for me and I still call myself a tester Writing a bunch of scripts for automated verification doesn't mean testing a product for sure.
I will not get into the debate of manual vs automated testing that's one of the nonsense software testing topics which was and is still trending.
So you must be wondering why I am writing this post and why this MT and Santa.
A few days back I got a call from one of my friend(One of the MT) to guide her learning automation as their company has decided to convert all manual testers to automated testers by Feb of next year (I am not sure if they have some automation recipe ).
Below are some questions which we came up during our discussion
What if MT doesn't want to get converted to the automated tester?
What if any MT fails during an assessment of this training(Will they fire them ?)
What if their organization are not able to place the converted MT to automation project?
Below are some questions which we came up during our discussion

They don't have a choice.Management has already decided their future
What if any MT fails during an assessment of this training(Will they fire them ?)
This is unknown yet however, they will definitely derive some conclusions and act from automation assessment.
What if their organization are not able to place the converted MT to automation project?
This is the question I asked my friend and even she is not aware of the answer yet.

You are not alone
Talk to your friends who have tasted the automation recipe before.
Did they like it?
How can we improve the taste of recipe?
Learn by Doing

Disclaimer -
- I am not favoring automation testing over manual testing
- I think every MT should cook and taste the automation recipe at least once.
- I personally don't like to use words like manual, automation tester, this is the language understood by most of the audiences and that is the only reason I am using this words
But that's just my opinion...what do you think?
